Fibroids (Myomas)

Fibroids are benign tumors that develop in the uterine wall. They are typically composed of muscle tissue and are common, with most women experiencing them at some point in their lives. Fibroids often do not cause pain or symptoms, but if they grow large or press on specific areas, symptoms may appear.

Fibroids are believed to be hormone-related, particularly influenced by estrogen. As a result, they often shrink after menopause when estrogen levels decrease.

Treatment for fibroids varies depending on the severity of symptoms and the patient’s age. Options may include medications, hormone therapy, surgical interventions (such as myomectomy or hysterectomy), or uterine artery embolization (which cuts off blood flow to shrink the fibroid). It is important to consult a doctor to discuss treatment options based on individual circumstances and needs.
